Pollution Is Scary! Oil Skimming Keeps the Ghosts Away
Even after Halloween is over, the goblins of pollution will still be haunting industries from automotive to food processing, and from truck washes to machine shops. OK, so the EPA inspector won't come to your door like the Jason in a horror movie, wearing a hockey mask and carrying a chain saw. But getting a letter from the EPA can still make your blood run cold. Skimming is the most cost-effective way to remove oil from water, often cleaning wastewater to the point that it meets EPA guidelines for safe discharge. Abanaki oil skimmers get rid of that haunted feeling, because you know that your business is in compliance.
Reviewers Give Four Stars to Oil Skimming 102 Webinar
As the sequel to Oil Skimming 101, this 12-minute Oil Skimming 102 webinar (online video tutorial) delivers a comprehensive review of how to choose the proper skimmer and size for your particular application.
Why Use a Disk Skimmer?
Disk skimmers are a good choice for mounting on drums and in places where the water level does not fluctuate, and where a small oil-removal capacity is required. Because they are small, and simple to construct, disk skimmers provide the least expensive method to skim oil. Unfortunately, some competing products have given disk skimmers a reputation of being cheap.
Abanaki disk skimmers are superior in design and construction. A "boomerang" shape wiper blade extends over the edge of the receiving trough, adding an extra inch of wiping area that greatly increases capacity. Unlike some other manufacturers, we mount the wiper blades away from the edge of the trough, so oil doesn't drip down the outside. What's more, our skim disks are ½-inch thick—twice the thickness of competing disks. Like a vinyl phonograph record, a thin disk may warp if it is exposed to heat or chemicals, compromising its effectiveness. For the same cost as those "other guys," Abanaki provides a truly reliable disk skimmer, and that can be beautiful music to your maintenance operation.
Machining Operation Tells Tramp Oil to Take a Hike
Hahn Manufacturing supplies precision prototype and production machined parts for OEMs across the country. The coolant tanks in Hahn's multiple machining centers were being contaminated with tramp oil. Plant manager Gary Ott was concerned with escalating disposal and replacement costs for the five machining centers. He found the solution to his problem in the Mighty Mini® oil skimmer. Clean Our World Tip – Submitted by Tom Hobson, Abanaki Corp.
When making a deposit in an ATM machine, recycle an envelope that you bring from home. The envelopes that come in junk mail work great. It's a simple, personal way that you can help conserve the world's dwindling forests.
